FSO Cendor diary
it is 0920. 1 more hour before balik. i have been working on this fso for 3-4 days now. not expected to go back this early. tak ready gi, but have to gak because takde chopper for the next week. kang spend time lame sangat kat sini, susah gak.
first day, naik chopper gi MOPU; naik basket turun supply boat. 10 minutes arrived FSO Cendor. naik basket gi nak naik atas kapal. quite adventurous gak nak gi cendor. other platforms like carigali's dont have this basket2 thing, i think. haha. at night, wat gauging for every tank. there are 9 tanks total; reserved 1 for production. (at this time of writing, medic informed we will depart at 1200, so 3 more hours to go). then, masuk lab to study crude sampling.
second day, at 0900 or earlier, crude lifting activity started. i went to upper deck to watch the radar. like all ships, there is a radar for captain to know the distance of other ship approaching. went outside the deck. the export ship is named forward flair. the crew informed she is from vietnam. maybe. there were few personnel from our side that were already on the other ship. so start la bagi tali to connect both ships, the hose to transfer the crude, and shooting the messenger line. at 1000, started transferring crude. from now, have to wait 30 hours for the transfer activity to be completed. so ley relax2 la. i took the opportunity to jalan2 sekeliling kapal. the crew were very nice to me. all were giving their cooperation to explain everything that i need to know. i went and took pictures of everything until the camera punye battery exhausted. lucky the captain lend me kapal punye camera for me to continue taking pictures. waa so nice la orang sini. the weather was nice and calm. a bit mabok and pening2. so in the evening i just spent my time in my room chatting and web surfing.
third day, was informed the lifting activity will be completed at 1500. the technician who were with me suggested that i checked the engine room for familiarization. okay. so off i went to the engine control room. quite old facilities. since the ship is no longer on sailing, the main engine is shut off; only operating the generators and monitoring the pumps for the ship's operations. afraid that the humid in the engine room might cairkan my contact lenses (hoho), i quickly finished the tour and went to main deck (panas2..haha). then i went to metering area, to collect crude sample (accumulated from all tanks), went to the lab, crude sampling, divided the crude in several containers for keeping purpose. at 1512, the lifting activity completed. i went to upper deck to watch the disengagement of the tali, hose and whatever. forward flair was towed by two boats. at this time, the weather was not so rough but not so calm either. captain informed there will be no chopper available for us next week, so if want to balik, might as well balik this monday. hurm could not stay for year end inventory. how would i tell my bos. ah whatever, yang penting balik. back to reality, our fso now a bit lighter than before after the lifting. most of the tanks dah kosong. so goyang pun lebih la. could not tahan with the situation, i went tido in my room. haha. at night, worsen. i went to control room to transfer the pics that i have taken, but adoh, mabok and pening giler, so off i went to my room again.
fourth day, final day here. bangun, mandi and breakfast. while waiting time nak balik, i decided to update this blog. now here i am. haha. hopefully the weather is good, i can balik. huh, now what? watch movie je la.

how i met u
I have met many kind of people in many kind of ways. I will share those yang interesting for me; for you readers to make it as your reference or for you to share with others gak. I will put the title as 'how i met u'.
This first of 'how i met u', happened few months before. (i share this cause i happen to read someone's blog mentioning how he wanted to talk to a girl next to him in a bus but didn't have the courage..well, learn from this guy, dude).
Date: August 2008
Venue: In a bus (Kulim - KL)
Time: Pagi kot
I was in a hurry to go to kl. Applied unrecorded leave from my previous company, asked a friend to send me to bus station, bought the ticket, took the bus. I sat in the last row at the right side. He was sitting also in the last row but at the left side. I was busy 'bye-bye'ing my friend, when a group of family entered the bus looking for place to sit (apparently it was free seating based punye bus). The guy suddenly called me;
G(the guy): Awak, leh dok sebelah saya tak?
M(me) : Nape?
G : Saya tak nak dok sebelah diorang la. (tunjuk the group)
Since i pun dont want to sit next to the family;
M: OK. (I moved and sat next to him)
G: You're goin to kl?
M: Obviously.
G: Keje ke study gi?
M: Keje.
G: Where?
M: Kulim Hi Tech.
G: Owh I know that place.
M: How about u?
G: Working gak. Tapi kat sini attend majlis kawen kawan at (i forgot the name of the place).
M: Owh.
G: So u keje as ape ye?
M: Design Engineer.
G: Wow.
M: U?
G: (macam reluctant to say), I wat bisnes.
M: U ni businessman?
G: Yup.
M: How old are u?
G: 23. U?
M: Same. 23 dah jadi businessman? Muda nyer.. (i thought he tipu at first..haha)
G: I know. I took the risk. I was working as marketing (whatever) in Felda for two years. Get bored so i start wat bisnes.
M: Two years working? Bile abis study?
G: I was a business student. Kejap je. Bukan cam engineering.
M: Oh yeah. Stupid me.
Bla bla bla. We were talking the entire time asking that and this.
G: U know what, I before ni bukan talkative like this. I ni jenis pendiam.
M: Owh ok.
G: But as a businessman, I blaja cara nak communicate ngan people. So I buang rase malu. And I cakap je ngan sesiape. At least ley wat network.
M: Tul2.
Bus approaching KL.
G: Kite dah nak sampai KL.
M: Yup.
G: I tak tau name u gi.
M: Oh ye kan, u were right. Kite cakap itu ini tapi tak bagitau name.
G: So what's your name?
M: Marliana.
G: Wan.
M: Hai Wan. Hurm cam tak nice je. (Sempat gi aku kutuk name die).
Well, that is more or less the conversation I had with this guy. From his look, he does look like someone yang diam je, malu2 je nak approach orang, but don't judge a book from its cover. Haha. We exchaged phone numbers and still contact each other until now.
Conclusion: Sile approach perempuan dengan cara yang baik. Insya Allah, she will give the feedback that you wanted. But if you are rude, terima la sepakan hi heel and tamparan maut or ignorance.

Do you really know your partner?
Do you really know your partner? Here are a dozen ways to get to know your partner. So choose wisely (haha):
1. Protocol: First or Second? Whether it's walking through a door, ordering dinner, or taking a bite out of the freshly baked cookies you have made together, if your partner always have to go first this could indicate self- centeredness. Are you willing to always be the giver?
2. Politics: Liberal or Conservative? How your partner views what is right or wrong in a political sense tells you a lot about his deep inner beliefs about society, and ultimately, the way he will approach your relationship issues. Will his views cause a rift in your relationship?
3. Television: Sitcoms or News? If his tendency is to watch "escape" TV programs versus "newsy/event" oriented ones, you can learn a lot about one's intellect. Do you want a mate who can keep up with your every day interest in what is going on in the world or a person you can run away with to avoid the world we live in?
4. Money: Flash or Stash? If your partner throws money around while dating, he might well be reckless with your joint finances when you move in together. Do you want to hook up with a tightwad or splurger?
5. Stress: Freak or Peak? Under Pressure, does he go to pieces or rise to the top of his game? If the answer is the former, every minor incident in your relationship might become a crisis. Do you like a lot of drama?
6. Conversation: About You or Him? As you first get to know each other does he always talk about himself first or you? If he is usually the topic priority do not expect that to change. Can you subordinate yourself to the world revolving around him?
7. Pets: Warm or Aloof? Believe it or not, the way in which he treats animals will not be dissimilar to how he treats your children. How do you want him to treat your loved ones?
8. Communication: Listens or Ignores? If you have something you want to talk about and he tunes you out as a general rule, can you cope?
9. Strangers: Kind or Rude? How he treats those they do not know (waiters, grocery clerks) often reflects on how he will treat people in general, including you, shortly after the glow wears off.
10. Priorities: Family or Work? You can tell almost immediately where a person's preferences lie in terms of what comes first (a family member's illness or a business trip) by the choices he makes when faced with an "either/or" situation. Do you care if he leaves on the next plane to present the such-and-such report if you or the kids have pneumonia?
11. Appearance: Fat or Fit? How he regards his appearance screams loudly about his sense of self-esteem. Those who eat sensibly, workout reasonably, and who take pride in their appearance are the ones who have a great sense of self. Does he really have self-confidence or might it be a front?
12. Faith: Strong or Weak? If you want a peak at his soul, learn more about his spirituality, or lack of it. What a person believes deep down is often what shapes the way in which they conduct their day-to-day affairs. What is your mate's "words to live by?"

thumbs up
Seems everyone these days is giving the thumbs-up, no matter the circumstances. Know the origin?
Death to gladiators
The thumbs-up gesture has its roots in ancient Rome, where gladiators would literally live or die by it. Pollice verso is the Latin term for the gesture, meaning "with a turned thumb."
"It was a hand gesture that was used by the crowd to say if the gladiator should live or die after a fight," explains Lisa Slattery Rashotte, a sociologist at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte.
The last thing a sweaty sportsman wanted was a thumbs-up. While in modern times it has a positive meaning, back then it meant "get him out of here," or death, while a concealed thumb (considered thumbs-down) meant the gladiator lived.
War ready
During World War II, American pilots gave the thumbs-up a new spin.
Pilots would use a thumbs-up to indicate they were ready to go up. That's how they would indicate to the crew that they were ready, that everything was good.
The hand motion spread across Europe and even parts of South America during the war.
While many cheerful gestures have fallen out of popularity, such as the increasingly tired high-five and its really dated predecessor, gimme-five, the thumbs-up has kept a firm grip on cultures.
The media is one reason for the gesture's sticking power. With the thumbs-up and the pilots, you saw that image a lot. It was a positive image from a war situation that could be brought back home and put in the papers.
The thumbs-up took a small hit in the 1950s and 1960s as anti-war sentiments took center stage and the peace sign became the more popular positive gesture.
The Fonz!
Sitcom "Happy Days," which first aired in 1974, likely revived the thumbs-up. The show's too-cool character Fonzie (Arthur Fonzarelli, played by Henry Winkler), often flipped both thumbs-up while flashing a dashing grin and delivering a gravelly "aaaaaaaay."
With its widespread usage in the United States, the "everything is good" sign might be here to stay.
People in the U.S. know that thumbs-up means 'good job' or 'I agree' or 'things are good.' In our culture, it seems to be one of the more fundamental kinds of nonverbal communications.
In other regions, the thumbs-up sign is also popular, though it can have various meanings. In Iran and Greece, it can be the equivalent of "flipping someone off". In India, the meaning changes depending on whether the gesture is accompanied by certain words or other hand movements.
